Phew! It was a hot one this week, especially for lugging computers around. The kids and teachers upstairs really put their sweat glands to the test.
Here’s what we worked on in the computer lab:
Kindergarten – We worked on our mousing skills: keeping the mouse “in its house”, clicking and double-clicking. We will log in starting next week which requires the student to type their user name and password. This is one of the biggest concepts that we deal with in the first few weeks of school.
Primary – Gina’s and Whitney’s classes had a reminder of how to log onto the lab computers and then how to log in to Type-to-Learn. They are at the first two levels of TTL, getting to know the home row. Beth’s class looked at several websites that pertain to monkeys and gorillas which is one of their study units. (Check the Primary Resources page for the links).
Intermediate – All three primary classes played the “Find Me Game” where a file is hidden on their computer and given only written instructions, they have to find the file and then follow additional instructions. All this without talking! There is a penalty for talking which is to touch a Harry Potter book in the library. Next week the Intermediate classes will start to make a poster for their classroom.
Upper Unit – the mobile lab is up and running with most of the kinks of last year worked out. Computers are used throughout the day in Heidi’s classroom.
